Standards and labels
EN 13727:2012, along with the amendment A2:2015, is a European standard that focuses on evaluating the bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics. It provides a test method and criteria for assessing the effectiveness of these products against specific bacteria.
EN 14476:2013+A2:2019 is a European standard for testing the effectiveness of disinfectants and sterilants against the virus that causes COVID-19. It defines test methods, performance requirements, and possible test results. The standard requires a minimum log reduction (inactivation) of 4.0 (99.99%) for virucidal claim. Testing must be done using a suspension of a reference virus and the product must be tested according to the manufacturers' instructions for use. The +A2:2019 is an amendment to the original standard, which provides additional information and guidance on testing and also includes new requirements for testing virucidal activity against other enveloped viruses.
Test results
Viricidal Activity PassedEN 14476:2013+A2:2019 is a European Standard that specifies a method for determining the virucidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics. The 'Passed' designation indicates that the product has been tested and found effective at inactivating viruses as per the standard's requirements. The test method involves applying the disinfectant to a test virus under controlled conditions and then measuring the reduction of virus infectivity. This involves assessing the product's ability to neutralize viruses on various surfaces or in suspension, typically within a specific contact time and at defined conditions of temperature and organic load. Products meeting this standard are crucial for healthcare settings, laboratories, and places where viral transmission is a concern, providing confidence in the product’s ability to significantly reduce the risk of spreading viral infections.
"Made in Finland" is a label used to indicate that a product has been manufactured or produced in Finland. The label is not regulated by EU laws and doesn't have specific requirements, but it's an indication of quality and origin of the product. The Finnish government does not have any specific laws or regulations for the use of "Made in Finland" label, but the Finnish Standards Association SFS has a voluntary standard SFS-EN 16471 for products that are manufactured or substantially transformed in Finland. This standard provides guidelines for the use of the "Made in Finland" label and it's up to the companies themselves to decide if they want to use it, and if they do, it is their responsibility to ensure that the products are truly made in Finland.
Vegan refers to a lifestyle and diet that excludes all forms of animal exploitation, including the use of animal products, such as meat, dairy, eggs and honey. Vegan products are free from any animal-derived ingredients. In Europe, there are no specific requirements for labeling a product as vegan, but some countries have their own regulations for food labeling. The EU has an overview of the food labeling regulations that are in place, but these regulations do not specifically mention "vegan" as a label. However, a product can't be labeled as vegan if it contains any animal-derived ingredients. The Vegan Society and the European Vegetarian Union provide vegan certification for products that meet their criteria.
