Standards and labels
EN ISO 17249:2004 is a standard that defines the requirements and test methods for protective gloves used in thermal risks protection. It specifies the performance requirements for protection against thermal risks such as contact heat and flame. The requirements include resistance to heat and flame, and freedom from holes. The test results include the level of protection against thermal risks, and the results of visual inspection. It also includes test procedure for gloves and gives guidelines for the selection, care and use of gloves. It gives also the methods for evaluating the thermal risk protection properties of gloves and the performance levels that can be expected. The standard also includes the requirements for labeling and information to be provided by the manufacturers and suppliers of gloves for thermal risks protection.
EN ISO 20345:2011 is a rule book for safety shoes and boots worn by people working in construction. It tells how the shoes and boots should be made and tested, to make sure they protect the feet from hazards such as slips and falls. Test results will show how good the shoes and boots are at not slipping, if they can handle water and if they last a long time. The goal of the standard is to make sure that the shoes and boots that construction workers wear keep their feet safe.

To get the CE Marking, a company must test and certify their product meets these standards. PPE stands for "personal protective equipment." PPE Category 3 refers to equipment that is complex and provide the highest level of protection such as powered respirators, SCBA, and full body suits. In Europe, PPE Category 3 must meet certain safety standards set by the European Union, which means that it must be designed and manufactured to protect the user without causing harm. Companies that make or sell PPE must prove that it meets these standards.
