• EN 143:2021

  EN 143:2021 is a European standard for particle filter respirator mask. It defines the minimum requirements for filter efficiency, filter penetration, and breathing resistance, as well as the test methods used to determine compliance with these requirements. The standard also specifies the types of particle filters that can be used in respirator masks and the information that must be provided by manufacturers. Possible test results include filter efficiency, filter penetration, breathing resistance, which must meet the minimum standards set by the standard.

  P1

  The P1 result as specified in EN 143:2021 indicates the performance level for particulate filters used in respiratory protection equipment, with P1 being the lowest level of protection against solid and liquid particles including various dusts and mists. P1-rated filter filters at least 80% of airborne partilces. An explanation of the test performance for the P1 result would specify that the filter's efficiency meets the basic requirements for filtering non-toxic substances present in low concentrations. Filters classified under EN 143:2021 are put through rigorous testing methods to determine their filtration efficiency. This involves challenging the filter with a standardized aerosol and measuring the penetration of particles through the filter material. Practically, a P1-rated filter is suitable for environments where pollutants present are harmless and particle concentration is low, making them ideal for activities such as hand sanding, drilling, and cutting materials that do not contain hazardous substances.
