  General Requirements S4

  The 'S4' result in standard EN ISO 20345:2011 pertains to specific requirements for rubber or polymer footwear designed to protect against certain risks at the workplace. In terms of test performance, the 'S4' category indicates that the footwear is compliant with the standards for 200 joules toe cap, fully enclosed heel, antistatic protection, and energy absorption of seat region. Additionally, it specifies that the upper part of the footwear is made from entirely moulded polymers or rubber and hence waterproof. This test method involves individually assessing the footwear's static electrical resistance, energy absorption capabilities, and the ability to withstand exposure to fuel oil without degradation. Practically, this implies that footwear categorized under 'S4' is suitable for environments where the risk of static build-up, impact injuries from compression, and exposure to chemicals or oils is high. This assures workers in fields like chemical plants, hazardous waste management, or oil refineries, a higher level of safety and compliance with EU regulations on occupational footwear.

• PPE Category 2

  PPE stands for "personal protective equipment." PPE Category 2 refers to equipment that is more complex, and has a higher level of risk. Examples of PPE Category 2 include safety helmets, ear protection, and fall arrest equipment. In Europe, PPE Category 2 must meet certain safety standards set by the European Union, which means that it must be designed and manufactured to protect the user without causing harm. Companies that make or sell PPE must prove that it meets these standards. They also must have a quality management system in place and have to be audited regularly by a notified body.
